Online Watercraft Registration Renewal
You may renew your watercraft registration online only if you have received
a Watercraft Renewal Notice by mail with your online renewal PIN code.
Please have your registration number, PIN, and credit card ready.
If a fee is due, online payments may be made with Visa or MasterCard only.
Notice: The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will never ask you to provide, update or verify personal or account information (social security number, PIN, credit or debit card numbers, etc.) through unsolicited e-mail.
If you receive unsolicited or suspicious email from DGIF, please forward the message to CyberSecurity@dgif.virginia.gov.
This service is unavailable every Wednesday from 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM for regular system maintenance.
Boaters have the choice of renewing in person at our office in Richmond, through the mail using the renewal form we sent with their renewal notice, or online with our enhanced online renewal service. Boaters renewing online receive a printable 30-day temporary registration allowing the boater to use the boat immediately. An additional $1.50 is applied to the renewal fee for use of the enhanced service.
Ownership Status Change (on back of the renewal form)
To change the ownership status of a watercraft, you must manually complete the back of the renewal form that was mailed to you and return it to:
